July 03 Happy Fourth! This morning Chloe, El and I went to the grocery store, and I used one of those car carts. Chloe had so much fun! There was space for two people but I wanted Ella up where I could reposition her when she slid sideways, so Chloe buckled Bearcat in beside her. She was turning the steering wheel like a truck driver and beeping the horn and stuff. When we got to the checkout, she tried to shoplift some Bubble Tape. We went really early, so when we left there still were hardly any cars in the lot, so I walked really fast (okay, trotted) and made her squeal. I think if more places were open at 7AM, we would go more places! (did you EVER think you would see me say that?) Then I took Amelia in for a weight check and she's lost 2 more ounces! So, we've blocked off the laundry room and put her in there with 24-hour access to yummy wet food. Damn cat. The other cute thing was that Matt gave Chloe a piggyback ride, and then she wanted him to give Bearcat a piggyback ride, and then she tried to give Bearcat a piggyback ride. Right now I'm listening to people setting off fireworks. I keep thinking "if you wake my baby up I will come and get you" but I know I won't. Tempted though. June 30 9 monthsHi! Ella's appointment went well. She's in the 50th percentile for everything, weighing in at 16 pounds 12.5 ounces. She only had to get one shot. Poor thing! Then we went to pick up Amelia. It cost way too much money for them to tell me that there's nothing wrong with her except an attitude problem! Well, she can eat what she wants to as far as I'm concerned. YOU WIN, EVIL CAT.
June 29 Stubborn KittySo, from what the vet can tell, there's nothing actually *wrong* with Amelia. The backstory in brief is- she was an indoor/outdoor cat, then she got hit by a car last November and broke her leg, and we started making her stay in. The lack of exercise made her get really fat, and she got a couple of urinary tract infections. The vet had us switch her food, and she doesn't like it, and refused to eat it. According to the vet, cats can actually starve themselves to death! So, they gave her food that cats usually like, and Amelia is lapping it up over there. The vet said we can probably take her home tomorrow afternoon, and keep giving her food she likes to get her weight back up, and then worry about her urinary problems later. Sounds good to me.
In other news, Ella is CRAWLING! Just a little bit here and there, but she can definitely get up on those hands and knees and get somewhere near where she wants to go. Of course, she Always wants to go to Chloe's toys, and she Always wants the ones that aren't chew proof, and she Always puts them right in her mouth, and then gets upset when I take them. I'm trying to teach Chloe to keep her toys up on the couch or coffee table, but it's sort of like teaching a dog to eat with silverware, you know what I mean? Luckily a razz on the belly is all it takes to make El feel better.
Matt's parents went to Disney World for a union thing (how do I sign up for that union) and brought back cute headgear & outfits for the girls.
I think that's all the news that's fit to print... Ella has her 9 month visit tomorrow. Shots! Oh no! Poor KittyAmelia is in the cat hospital! She's been losing weight so I took her to the vet. It turns out that she weighs 6 lbs 15 oz (at her last visit she weighed 12 lbs 12 oz) and she has jaundice. Apparently metabolizing her own fat for energy so quickly has given her liver problems. The vet is giving her IV fluids and doing bloodwork. I told the doctor about Amelia's refusal to eat, and she is going to try to figure out why she's not eating.
